Asst. Manager - Shipping & Logistics | 4-5 years | Dresser-Rand


Position Overview/Summary:

Manage the Shipping & Project Logistics as per INCO Terms defined in the contract for Inbound / Outbound inland transportation, Sea / Air Freight activities within the cost budget and time line defined in the Contract.   He will be responsible for successful execution of Outbound Logistics to the satisfaction of end Client. This role will be applicable for all Projects related to New Equipment and Revamp Contracts.

Position Qualifications (Required and Preferred):

Required Education and Skill sets:  

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering / Commerce with at least 4-5 years working experience in Oil and Gas, Heavy machinery manufacturing industry, Industry of similar nature or logistic Company handling Shipments of Rotating Equipments.
  • Technical and Commercial experience related to Logistics with ability to develop Technical RFQ with the required commercial terms and conditions as per contract.
  • Experience dealing directly with Inland Transporters, Freight forwarders and end customers. Knowledge about Domestic and Export Logistics.
  • Conceptual knowledge of project management, practices and procedures, and schedule management tools (e.g. MS Project or equivalent)
  • Basic Technical Knowledge about medium to big size rotating Equipment and its associated accessories.
  • Proficiency in the application of computerized systems, including standard business applications (i.e. MS Office, MS Excel)
  • Mandatory Skills:
    • Leadership skills including relentless problem solving and results orientation with a focus approach.
    • Effectively lead and work under pressure
    • Work constructively with all stakeholders, building both internal and external relationships, able to negotiate with senior D-R and client representative
    • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Negotiation skill and commercial experience to manage contract scope changes directly with client
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Strong bias for following processes and continual process improvement
  • Strong sense of time urgency for critical-path project items, milestones, and key project deliverables

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Understand the INCO Terms of the Client Contract or our Contract terms with Supplier for major MBO and clearly define the responsibility on Buyer and Seller side.
  • Have a good transportation arrangement skills and contacts with all leading agencies.
  • Provide suggestion at the time of preparation of Equipment Arrangement drawing to reduce the logistic cost and time.
  • Preparation of Packing Notes with dimensions, Volume, Net Weight and Gross Weights after studying the Equipment Arrangement Drawing and other equipment drawings for outbound logistic or receive the same from MBO Supplier for Inbound logistics and wet the same with respect to drawings.
  • Prepare Technical RFQ and float technical inquiries to various inland Transporters and other Freight forwarders for Air / Sea Shipment.
  • Liaison with various transporters and Freight forwarder to review the technical offers and prepare technical recommendations.
  • Liaison with D-R nominated CHA Agent at various Ports to ensure that Shipping Bill and Custom clearance is done in shortest possible time.
  • Prepare Cost Template for ease of Cost estimation purpose for Outbound Logistics.
  • Reduce Cost of Packing Material by ensuring quality is not comprised. 
  • Ensure that Shipping Marks, Lifting Instructions, Center of Gravity and other shipment instructions are provided on all the cases for both inbound and outbound logistics.
  • Ensure that all necessary commercial documents are endorsed by Client for revenue recognition purposes.
  • Facilitate Logistic related discussion with Client along with the assigned Project Manager for the Project.
  • Develop Risk and Mitigation Sheet related to Logistics for all the Projects.
  • Track the Shipment status for both inland and Sea / Air Freight on regular basis and ensure that the Shipment reaches destination as per PO Terms and Conditions.
  • Prepare Lesson Learnt for all the Projects related to Logistics issues and ensure no repetition of same problem in future Projects.
  • Interpret client’s / consultant’s requirement from specifications for packing and painting and guide the team and generate the requirement.
  • Monitoring timely documentations including insurance of shipped units.
  • Monitor the Shipping / packing cost and discuss with SCM for proper Supplier finalization.
